There is a statue of a pig on my desk. He is dressed in a blue collared shirt, maroon overalls, and black shoes. He sits in an armchair reading a book entitled “The Pig and I”, but what I like most about him is the expression on his face.
Glancing up from his text, he looks as though you have just interrupted his reading. He is somewhat irked, but he will be polite and listen to you anyway. He is a proud pig with a quiet confidence about him, with important things to do and important things to read, yet he is not pompous.
Who decided all this for Mr. Pig? Who decided the look on his face and what he would be reading and wearing? Why did they make him how he is? Why did they make this sow in the first place? So that I could place it on my desk, glance up at it from time to time and pontificate? I sure hope so because that is what I do anyway.
There are many things that I would like to do in this world and many things I would like to create. I think one of those things would be to make my own “pig statue”. Something that seems a little out of place. Something that has surprising details (and strange ones) for something so simple. Something that may make someone stop for a second and ask themselves “What the hell?” even if only for a few moments.
